Worker Writes

SINGAPORE — On Sunday, the first ever Migrant Workers Poetry Competition wrapped up at the National Library .
 SHADES OF LIGHT AND DARK
Maybe I feel something.
A soft heart or a gentle breeze, a sensation
Maybe a night of wakefulness
Shades of light and dark floating in the moonlight
Maybe I am waiting for someone, and someone for me.
Maybe one evening, a garden of clouds would desire me,
only me. In a warm magpie forest,
constellations whisper.
Maybe I am losing myself in a dream
Maybe a generous shade lulls me to sleep in broad daylight
And the vortex of sand and water pulls me in.
Maybe I am waiting at the gates of a kingdom.
Perhaps a bird, a strand of grass hides in my world
The breeze from the sails of the horizon
raising the rhythm through the calm nocturnal sea.
Maybe I will see a kite looking for its string
A paused rain drop, a search
waiting in front of me
Magic has spread a mountain of illusions
calling us by waving discarded feathers
Maybe I will step into the rumblings of a forest
A leaf, a summer, surrounded by the golden sun
on a field full of harvest
A lonely elusive call losing faith and closing its fists.
Maybe I am waiting for a moment
An impression, a smell or an empty house
A feeling of silent tiredness
Walking down the path of prose that excites my soul.

(Rajeeb Shil Jibon)
I chose this poem as my favorite because ''  a garden of clouds would desire me, only me. In a warm magpie forest, constellations whisper.'' caught my attention because i like to imagine  a warm quiet place in a forest and little rays of sunlight filter though the branches of trees from the canopy .
I also like this stanza ''Maybe I will step into the rumblings of a forest
A leaf, a summer, surrounded by the golden sun
on a field full of harvest '' it is similar to the previous one where i said about the warm quiet place but this time the golden sun kissing lightly on  my cheeks and forehead in a  field full of harvest  . It makes you feel like in a dream like state where nothing else matters . The sweet serenity engulfs the entire place making you feel safe and sound . No worries . No Problems .

I Believe In Music.

As the title states, music is what i believe in . It is the special connection that brings all musicians together to come about and play or sing our hearts out .As I am a musician I want people to bring out their inner musicality deep within themselves.

Do you notice how many friends  you have that will actually join you in singing together? or maybe you just start jamming and they will just look at you thinking you are going crazy ? . Some people might  be afraid people  judging  them or they might just be shy. The thing is ,as a  musician , I want  to bring out this inner musicality spirit in them by encouraging people not to be  shy and just be  confident if you want to sing out because music expresses the feeling and emotions from the bottom of the heart.
A concert is coming up . We have weeks to work on our repertoire . As the  concert gets closer the tension is building up . We can feel the pressure escalating as we left with a few days to the performance . Nearly 1000 tickets sold . Can we do it? Can we show what we have practiced so many weeks for ? Can we connect our hearts and soul with the spirit of music to the audience?  It's either make or break . Lets do this . It's show time .

We Learned to play!

Recently I went to watch Singapore's Symphony Orchestra  perform in the esplanade . It was an astounding performance as expected . It was excited as they performed the highlights of Joe Hisaishi's works . I can only say that  I fell in love as the sheer beauty of Joe Hisaishi's music can do to your ears . The music was like candy for the ears to the point where it brought tears to my eyes . As I was from a Symphonic band myself , i felt connected as I feel that it would be an honor to create such beautiful music and to bring a person to tears would be a dream . I would want to do that someday if possible . Again , a stellar performance by the SSO .

$5 Challenge !

So on Tuesday I decided to do the $5 challenge . It was tough for me but i had a little help? I guess . DISCLAIMER !! I did have concession for MRT and Bus so that was helping me a bunch!

  • 06:30AM - So in the morning  ,I had a piece of bread at home , I do not eat much in the morning , so i was fine with that . (Total spent $0)
  • 08:00AM - Lesson time! Drank lots of water from the school's water cooler so I don't get hungry. (Total spent $0)
  • 10:00AM - Great! another lesson ! Same thing except I started to feel hungry . But I bared with it .
  • 12:00PM - WOOHOO! CHOWTIME! Rushed down to food court and carefully decided what to eat ! Ended up with Chicken Rice which cost half of my money .. (Total spent $2.50)
  • 02:00PM - Lesson again ... only spent money on food and thirst was quenched by water cooler! (Total spent $2.50)
  • 04:00PM - Go home with concession as mentioned above . Ate dinner at home .
Overall the $5dollars challenge was quite easy (luckily i had nothing on that day ) but if i had other things on that day it would be pretty tough for me !

Unusual Occupations

I have recently discovered an unusual occupation , and that is a Lego Certified Professional.
LEGO Certified Professionals is a community-based program made up of adult LEGO hobbyists who have turned their passion for building and creating with LEGO bricks into a full-time or part-time profession.

Trust me , the first time read that , I went ''wha??" . It is not an everyday thing to be a LCP (Lego Certified Professional ) heck to  even have a  in Singapore where everyone has the mindset of business man and accountants and bankers being the ideal job in Singapore . This person is non-other than 36 year old Nicholas Foo . He had his first Lego set at the young age of 8 like almost every other young kid . The turning point came when he made  a teddy bear with a compartment in it's tummy for his friend.

This creation became a hit after he uploaded photos of it online , and this led to Nicholas decision to make his hobby a full time profession. Nicholas was sent to Enfield , Connecticut for the programme . Lego Certified Professionals are not employees of Lego, but are trusted business partners , which gives them the right to market and sell their creations ad services as Lego master artists.

Game Time!

Last Thursday me and my friends hung out at the Singapore Polytechnic  as we had a long break before our next class . We decided to play some board games at the lowest level of the Singapore Polytechnic library . We chose about 4 different games like Earthopoly , Dividends, Bingo, Taboo! in-case we got bored of them and needed to switch out . We ended up switching up the games quickly as they were complicated and boring as the instruction manual did not help either. The last game we ended up was ''Taboo!'' which was the most fun and simplest of all  and it had a special Singapore edition to it. It was quirky and fun but we quickly got bored after awhile .We ended up getting very bored and tired as we just sad there the whole time .. Time was up , we headed for next class .
